1995 REFERENDUM EXHIBIT 7
In 1995, the Quebec Government held another referendum on Quebec's separation from Canada. This time the questions was "Do you agree that Québec should become sovereign after having made a formal offer to Canada for a new economic and political partnership within the scope of the bill respecting the future of Québec and of the agreement signed on June 12, 1995?". Unlike the first referendum which asked for sovereignty association with Canada, this referendum asked for sovereignty with the partnership to Canada being only an option. This referendum was very close. Polls showed he YES side ahead. Shortly before the referendum took place, thousands of Canadian travelled to Quebec and sent letters asking the people of Quebec to stay in Canada and vote NO. The outcome of this referendum was 60 percent No and 40 percent YES
